ACA Annual Conference 2015

ACA Annual Conference 2015

The 2015 ACA Annual Conference will address the theme of internationalisation strategies for higher education institutions from a double perspective. First, it will consider different concepts and approaches to internationalisation strategies, and at ways to design them. Second, it will address issues around the implementation of such strategies. ACA aima for a global perspective, with the majority of speakers coming from Europe, and presenting European approaches, but with several notable presenters originating from elsewhere in the world.

Sub-themes of the conference include mainstreaming of internationalisation as a strategic approach, branding a higher education institution, resourcing internationalisation strategies, and generating internal ‘buy in’ for them. Further, the conference will look at particular challenges to internationalisation efforts and how to overcome them, such as the integration of foreign students, teaching in English, incentivising short-term mobility of students and staff, and international marketing and student recruitment.

Global Responsibility and Institutional Mandate: Opportunity for Innovation
Summer Seminar provides an essential platform for the growth of BC’s international education sector. BCCIE’s annual conference brings together over 300 participants from our province, across Canada and beyond our borders. The conference attracts senior leaders, researchers, practitioners, student service providers, administrators, government, NGOs, and students to explore these ideas with the aim of strengthening our work and taking steps towards advancing outstanding leadership in the fields that comprise international education in BC.

Challenges and opportunities for increasing outward student mobility

Challenges and opportunities for increasing outward student mobility

As the final stages of the UK Strategy for Outward Mobility are implemented, delegates at this seminar will consider the progress of the strategy so far, along with the future priorities and funding options following the end of the programme in 2016. The seminar also comes a year into the new Erasmus+ programme and will evaluate its performance as well as the key priorities that should be addressed for the next five years.

At this early stage planned sessions focus on the effectiveness of the strategy in promoting student and institutional engagement with outward mobility, and the potential for a 'joined-up approach'. Delegates will discuss how to address obstacles - including financial barriers, particularly for those targeted by initiatives to widen participation - as well as how to encourage students outside of modern foreign language courses to consider international placements, including outside of the EU.
