Psychological Counselling in Higher Education (PSYCHE)

PSYCHE provides a forum for all those involved in the guidance and counselling of students in higher education within Europe. PSYCHE encompasses elements of the former Special Interest Group, FEDORA, which was dissolved in 2012. Professionals in the field of guidance and counselling for both domestic and international students are invited to join PSYCHE.

Mission

With its work, PSYCHE aims to connect higher education counselling services at a European level to guarantee appropriate help for students from all over Europe, to strengthen the flow of information with other psychological institutions, to become more integrated into higher education policy and the education system in general and to promote the importance of guidance and counselling services in higher education within the European Commission.

PSYCHE promotes the idea that counselling services have to be regarded as an indispensable part of every institution in higher education. PSYCHE also promotes the idea that successful academic learning implies personal growth and development. Given this holistic view of the student as a person, special attention is paid to the understanding of different cultures.

Objectives

  • To provide a network on any aspects of student guidance and counselling including training and qualifications.
  • To exchange information and experiences at the European level among those concerned with guidance and counselling of students in HE.
  • To improve the quality and effectiveness of guidance and counselling in HE within each of the European countries.
  • To collaborate with national and international organisations involved in guidance and counselling in Secondary and higher education so as to convey to them the views of professionals in the field of academic guidance and counselling.
  • To provide a network to support European Union programmes and make these known to institutions of higher education as well as to current and prospective students.
  • To promote and carry out studies and research on various aspects of academic guidance and counselling, to publish and disseminate the results, and to organise courses on these subjects.
