General information
The EAIE depends heavily on the willingness of its individual members to play an active part in its work by accepting leadership positions within the Association and by nominating others. In 2008, nominations are invited for:
- Vice-President/President-elect 2009-2010 (one vacancy)
- Executive Board 2009-2010 (three vacancies)
- Professional Section Chairs 2009-2010 (one vacancy for each Professional Section)
- Professional Section Boards 2009-2010 (three or four vacancies for each Board)
The three directly elected members of the Executive Board form the EAIE's Steering Committee together with the President and Vice-President.
The Executive Board consists of the President, Vice-President, the three directly elected members, and the Chairs of the Professional Sections.
The term of office for all elected posts is two years, and elections are held every two years under Article II of the EAIE bylaws.
Almost everyone who has served on an EAIE Board or Committee has found it to be a most enjoyable and rewarding experience. However, it can also be a very demanding one!
When making nominations or standing for election, please bear in mind that active participation is expected.
Anyone thinking about standing for election should ensure that they will have the support of their institution,
where applicable, for their work for the EAIE.
Deadline for nominations
The deadline for nominations
is 31 March 2008
Who can stand for election?
All candidates must be fully paid-up members of the EAIE.Please note it is not possible to stand for election to both the Executive Board and a Professional Section Board/Chair. It is also not possible to stand for election to more than one Professional Section's Board or Chair. If someone is nominated to more than one position, s/he will have to choose which nomination to accept. It is, however, possible to stand for election to both Chair and Board member within the same Professional Section. If elected as Chair, the nomination to the Board then automatically falls.
Two persons wishing to hold office in a Professional Section Board jointly as a job-share may be nominated for election as a pair, and will appear on the ballot material together as job-share candidates.
Who can make nominations?
Any fully paid-up EAIE member can nominate another member, and may also nominate him/herself.How do I make a nomination?
Nominations are now closed. The deadline has passed. How many supporters does my nomination need?
Nominations for the Vice-Presidency must be supported in writing by four current members in addition to the person making the nomination, from at least three countries in total.Nominations for the three directly-elected members of the Executive Board, who form the Steering Committee of the EAIE together with the Presidency, must be supported in writing by two current members in addition to the person making the nomination, from at least two countries in total.
Nominations for Professional Section Chairs and Boards must be supported in writing by two current members affiliated to the Professional Section for whose Chair or Board the candidate is being nominated.
Members may also nominate themselves, and the same rules apply.
These letters of support (which can be a single line, stating "I support the nomination of xxxxx to yyyyyy") must be received at the EAIE Secretariat on or before 31 March 2008.
Do I need to do anything else after I have sent my nomination?
If you have not already obtained the candidate's consent to nomination, you must make sure they send their written consent to the EAIE Secretariat before the deadline of 31 March 2008.
You also need to make sure that all the supporters send their letters of support (see above).
Candidates for election are reminded to send an election statement (and a photograph, if they are standing for election to Vice-President or the Executive Board) to the EAIE Secretariat by 31 March 2008.
Their nomination is still valid whether or not an election statement is received, but it is strongly recommended that candidates send one so that EAIE members have some information on which to base their vote. Go here for detailed information on writing an election statement.
When are the elections?
First, there is an electronic ballot of the membership, which will open 1 May 2008 and closed on 1 June 2008. The results will be presented as a recommendation to the annual General Meeting of the EAIE, where the actual elections take place. The 2008 General Meeting will be held on Friday 12 September during the Annual EAIE Conference in Antwerp, Belgium.
All members will be invited to vote in the electronic ballot for the Vice-Presidency and Executive Board. All members of the relevant Professional Section will be invited to vote in the electronic ballot for the Professional Section Chairs and Boards.
