Quality in International Education
Sixth Annual Conference, 24 to 26 November, 1994
London, United Kingdom

Participants came together to exchange ideas, compare and contrast systems and procedures and discuss ways to continue striving to improve 'Quality in International Education' which was this year's theme. The 6th Annual EAIE Conference was located in beautiful London and it was fantastic to see countries who have never been represented at past conferences such as Mozambique, Brazil, and South Korea.

SOCRATES was the word on everyone's lips, and the sessions organised on this new EU programme were overwhelmingly popular. New tracks in the programme were developed on North-South cooperation, electronic networking, and information sharing. The pre-conference information day included British higher education, several pre-conference training workshops and for the newcomers there was a welcoming session.

The Opening Plenary was opened by the Rt Hon Tim Boswell MP, Parliamentary under-secretary of State for Further and Higher Education. Sir Kenneth Berill GBE, KCB introduced the conference's quality debate with a keynote address on 'The threat to quality' and outlined the pressures bearing down on higher education.

The Churchill Auditorium in the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre was the venue for the Closing Plenary, which was addressed by Giancarlo Spinelli, Pro-rector for International Relations of the Politecnico di Milano. Besides the Opening Reception and the Royal Academy Reception there was of course the EAIE Dance that was held in the historic setting of University of Westminster's main site at 309 Regent Street.
