EAIE Annual Conference 2007

19th Annual EAIE Conference 2007
12-15 September, Trondheim, Norway

Trondheim
Located on Norway's beautiful western shore, Trondheim is the country's third largest city. Its location at the sea, where the river Nid flows into the majestic Trondheim fjord, has made it into one of Scandinavia's most important trading ports. Founded in 997 by the Viking king Olav Tryggvason, whose statue graces Trondheim 's central square, the city was Norway 's first capital and until today it remains the coronation city where all Norwegian kings are crowned. A turbulent history featuring viking battles, the Protestant reformation and German occupation in WWII have made Trondheim into a resilient city. When a large part of the city was destroyed by fire in 1681, a new city plan was soon devised with long wide boulevards, which would prevent future fires from spreading. While these broad streets give the city a continental feel, the city's Scandinavian roots can still be found in the remaining narrow alleyways, the rows of characteristic colourful wooden houses, and the old wharves along the river. Another eye-catcher in the city is the Nidaros cathedral, whose high altar is said to be built on the burial site of king and later Saint Olav. This has made Trondheim and its cathedral a popular destination for pilgrimages thoughout the centuries. The towers of the cathedral offer visitors beautiful panoramic views of Trondheim's wealth of nature: the mountains, fjords, rivers and farmlands. A city surrounded by nature, centre of commerce and religion, where old meets new, Trondheim is also a bubbling university city, with the EAIE conference host, NTNU, as one of its prominent higher education institutions.

Conference host
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is a centre for technological education and research in Norway, with a solid foundation in the natural sciences. This tradition is interwoven with expertise in the classical university disciplines of the humanities, medicine and the social sciences. At the same time, NTNU offers the widest range of education in art subjects of all the universities in Norway. NTNU promotes cross-disciplinary cooperation as it can result in brand-new ideas and creative solutions that change our daily lives.
NTNU has approximately 20 000 students and 1000 students from abroad. NTNU offers a broad spectre of 23 international Master`s Programmes taught in English, of which two are part of ERASMUS Mundus. As part of its international strategy, the University actively stimulates mobility of its students and researchers. Hosting the EAIE Conference fits perfectly with this objective.

Conference and exhibition venue
Bright, spacious and easily accessible, Trondheim Spektrum satisfies the most demanding congress and convention needs and has the perfect infrastructure for the EAIE conference and exhibition. Trondheim Spektrum is only a 15-minute walk from the city centre and 10 minutes from the nearest airport bus stop. The conference centre's many halls and meeting rooms offer participants and exhibitors all the facilities they need, while the park-like surroundings offer a perfect setting for relaxation and recreation during the conference breaks.
