Delivery of artwork
Below are the specifications and guidelines for delivering advertising artwork to the EAIE. Please ensure that your artwork conforms to the specifications listed here, has been thoroughly checked and is absolutely ready for printing. Only artwork that conforms to the specifications below will be accepted. We are unable to make any changes or corrections to your artwork and accept no liability for errors in your artwork or for incorrect output from your files.

General guidelines for all applications

All advertising is printed on DIN A4 format using offset technique.

Advertisements should be sent to the EAIE:
  • as finished artwork or copy, in full size (100%), correct colour mode and ready-to-use, in electronic form.
  • accompanied by a full-size (100%) print of the advertisement for checking.

Artwork is accepted in the following formats (in order of preference):
  • Illustrator EPS
  • QuarkXpress 8.0 or earlier versions
  • Indesign 5 (=cs3) or earlier versions
  • Photoshop TIFF or EPS
  • PDF or cPDF

In general all versions X.0 of the different applications still contain a lot of problems, which have been improved in subsequent versions X.1, X.2 etc. As soon as an update becomes available, it is wise to also update your version.

Images
  • CMYK or greyscale images need to be at least 300 dpi for a 100% placement
  • Bitmap and black-and-white images need to be at least 1200 dpi for a 100% placement
  • Each image that contains text also needs to be at least 1200 dpi, because the texts will be changed to bitmap
  • Images need to have the correct colour mode for the publication. Possibilities are: CMYK, PMS, greyscale or black-and-white
  • For images the formats TIFF and EPS are customary
  • Use only one colour name for a colour to prevent confusion of names, such as black and noir or CVU and CV colour extensions

Fonts
  • Each font used needs to be supplied. Within the different applications only the font styles can be used that are actually contained in the font set
  • Fonts need to be MAC and not PC. When working on a PC, turn fonts into letter outlines
  • If embedded fonts (for example in EPS) are used, no text corrections are possible. The same goes for letter outlines
  • When delivering fonts, please enclose the whole set, including both printer and screen fonts
  • Do not use different menu styles within the different applications if the font set does not contain these styles

Illustrator EPS
  • Turn the fonts into letter outlines, so the texts will be correct in the documents and no font problems will occur. Fonts need to be MAC and not PC
  • Insert any images at 100% with the correct resolution (see Images)
  • If still using Illustrator 8, do not use support colours, but update to 8.1 first
  • Do not use PDF files in Illustrator
  • Enclose all photos or images that you have used
  • If for some reason no letter outlines can be used, please enclose the complete font set and select 'save as EPS' to include the fonts
  • Maximum version of Illustrator to be used is version 13 (=cs3)

QuarkXpress or Indesign document
  • A QuarkXpress or Indesign document needs to be delivered with all font and image files used within the document. The burned CD needs to contain the Quark document, a folder Fonts and a folder Images, with all used parts
  • Put any cuts, folds, or creases always in the colour 'registration'
  • Do not use PDFs in QuarkXpress
  • Do not use Indesign 1.0, minimum required is 1.5

Photoshop TIFF or EPS
  • If still using photoshop 6.0, update to 6.01
  • As soon as texts are used in photoshop, the resolution needs to be at least 1200dpi, because the fonts are changed to bitmaps (see Images)
  • Different layers need to be joined.

PDF
  • Select in Acrobat Distiller PDF version 1.3, which is Acrobat 4 compatible
  • Select the pre-setting 'PressOptimized', all others are unsuitable for printing
  • Carefully check the document, print it and check the PDF. When making the PDF also define the surrounding space for registration marks and/or bleed, which needs to be indicated in the PostScript command.
  • When using QuarkXpress just tick the 3 mm bleed option in the export preferences.
  • When making a PDF in Indesign CS1, 2 or 3, please select 'file' and 'pre-setting adobe PDF' and 'pdf/x-1a:2001'. Please select a bleed of 3 mm with cutting lines (pre-setting 1.3 PDF compatibility)
  • When you use Photoshop it is not possible to have a bleed. If your Photoshop document does have a bleed it is better to deliver it as a TIFF file.
  • Enclose all fonts
  • Do not use ICC profiles
